Hello friends, I am grateful for your opinions on these shorebird pics. I apologize for the lack of clarity on plumage, it was not a good series of shots. This pair of birds was seen on October 1 in Milford, CT at the Coastal Audubon Center, on the Long Island Sound side way out on the outer sandbars, at approximately noon. They were close to other sandpipers and sanderlings foraging on the waterline, yet distinctly apart from the masses. The were clearly different in terms of bill length and angle, and certainly a slight bit bigger looking. They're standing in an inch or two of water.
Would you agree that these are Dunlin in non-breeding plumage? I know we get some rare, migrant Curlew Sandpipers on the New England coast, but these seem to be a little short-legged for the CS.
