Nikon 82ED Scope & Nikon D40x Camera (1 Viewer)

My wife gave me a Nikon 82ED Field Scope for Christmas to use in casual birding. I had never heard of digiscoping until recently and I decided to try it with the new scope and Nikon D40x camera that I already owned. The first photos were remarkable and much better quality that I thought possible. I'm very pleased with this setup [without knowing much about digiscoping] and the photos.

I didn't use the camera lens or eyepiece. I connected the camera directly to the scope with a Nikon adaptor. I believe it is the Nikon FSA-1

Ron,
You can get more magnification by using a 28/35/50 mm lens on the camera and the eyepiece that came with the scope. Neil.

Neil, I couldn't figure out how to mate the D40x lens to the 82ED lens. The lens I have on the camera is a 18-55 mm zoom.

These short Nikon zooms normally have a 52 mm thread so with the appropriate Nikon adapter for your eyepiece it will screw straight into the lens filter thread.
I would prefer to use a fixed eyepiece though as there may be some vignetting with the zoom. You can test it by setting the scope up on a table and slide the camera plus zoom to the eyepiece.
Neil
