Call of Four-banded Sandgrouse call? (1 Viewer)

Hi

I have recorded this video at the airstrip in Tendaba, Gambia in december.

I suspect that the rather highpitched and bouncy calls are the calls of Four-banded Sandgrouses (Pterocles quadricinctus) coming to drink at dusk...

So I would like to hear from e.g. experienced Africa-travellers if I am correct that it is Four-banded Sandgrouses?

Best wishes, Rune Sø Neergaard, Denmark

Yes it is. I used to hear this call every night - from dusk till dawn - as birds made their way to the remaining waterholes in the dry season. There's also a longer version of the call which I used to remember by the phrase "McPHERson's a cree-EEP" (with apologies to any McPherson's out there - it's just what it sounded like!)
