My 2013 Review (1 Viewer)

Farnboro John

Well-known member
This will cross a few boundaries as its basically what my camera has been pointed at since 1st January. I dithered a bit over where to stick it but this seemed best.

January:

A short break in the Forest of Dean was crowned with a successful Wild Boar photo-shoot; then a lot of local birding especially with the Moor Green Barn Owls was broken by a tiwtich into Central London for Bearded Tit!

February:

NB this is the month I was gripped off by my own camera.....

More Barn Owl work was followed by cracking Hawfinches, the Continental Dipper at Thetford and a trip to Spain to dip Wolves.

Some excellent shots John!....Hawfinch and Firecrest two of my favourites..Dipper is bloody good too!...Bridge or DSLR?

March:

I caught up with the delightful Thetford Otters at the third attempt, then went to Norway with Jos for Musk Ox. At the end of the month one of several Bluethroats to pass through Portland was matched by an amazingly showy Ring Ouzel.

DSLR. A Canon 7d usually hung on the back of a 500mm f4 with or without a 1.4 TC. The Romsey Hawfinches last winter were flat out amazing.

John

April:

The pace started to heat up with migrants coming through as well as reptiles and amphibians coming out to bask. I was busy.

May was full stretch with trips and day twitches, including my only British bird tick of the year, so they'd better accept it!

Mayday was Marion's fiftieth birthday: here she is wearing her new tiara...

I also combined the Dambusters' 70th anniversary with a visit to the Lake District Golden Eagle, a massively satisfying couple of days out.

June:

Not only did the rarities keep coming but there were more trips. I had a night out on the Isle of Wight bat watching and spent the previous afternoon butterflying, before crossing to Lymington and nipping into Pennington for Spoonbills; later in the month I was back on the IOW for a screamingly excellent summer female Wilson's Phalarope.

July was just mental. Stuff was behaving perfectly and I was photographing all sorts of wildlife. In addition at the end of the month, running into August, we had the great mammal-listers Black Rat expedition, so this is a multi-parter!
