Nothing suggests anything other than robin to me. The angle and the bird's posture are making the throat patch look smaller than it is.
OP describes this bird as bright white, "black as a blackbird", and scarlet. That doesn't sound anything like a robin, even considering the possible effects of lighting, angle, etc. Is the photo really good enough to dismiss her claims out of hand?
I can see one feature which would be really weird for a robin.... why is extent of the red on the breast greatest in the centre - almost forming a point and less on the breast sides...
