Helllo everyone. We are new students from Environmental Wildlife 12 at Dalian Maple Leaf International School. 23rd, Jan is our first date of field trip. We went to a mountain in Jinshitan where we put a secret camera in a tree.. We hang two fish on the branch of the tree above the ground about one metre high, and spread some fish food in order to attract some animals, so our hidden camera would take pictures of them.
Here are some pictures that we took during our field trip. We also saw some birds, too!

Yesterday we went on a field trip to check if the camera trap took any pictures in the past five days, but unfortunately we saw nothing. Maybe the weather was cold or maybe animals thought the fish were a trap set by human.

Here are the other animals and birds we saw yesterday during the trip

Nice sightings and great photos! Interesting that you have so many duck already.. is it a mild winter for you guys? In Beijing it's been milder than usual and Miyun Reservoir has parts that have remained ice-free all winter (great for birds but not for the ice fishermen!).

Yesterday, we went to a great place so we saw lots of bird. It is very exciting to see many spoonbill by our own eyes. We saw 12 Eurasian Spoonbill. They are very difficult to see in Dalian area. Our teacher has only seen them 4 times in 10 years. They migrate from south China and South East Asia through Dalian to their breeding areas in the north. Just as were leaving, a Common Buzzard flew over and scared them. They flew around for a minutes and then landed back in the Jinshitan Sea-farming Pond areas. They are very special birds in China. In May, we hope to travel to a place north of Dalian near Zhuanghe to see Black-faced Spoonbill. —— Made by Catherine

Congratulations on your Eurasian Spoonbills - they are at their best in spring when the long crests blow in the wind!

Cheers
