Decent travel tripod advice? (1 Viewer)

I'm looking to get a travel tripod - I'll be backpacking around Asia and New Zealand so it would need to be compact and light weight. It's only going to be supporting a light weight Opticron scope.

Anyone got any experience of sub £100 tripods that could fit the bill?

Cheers,

Tom

Cullmann 1002 or current model are short and very light weight and sell for $US 55.00 or less. Only drawback is the limited height but I have used one for years and it has not been a problem.

Current model that is similar is the Cullmann Nanomax 200T. Supports up to 2 kg and extends up to 82cm. It weighs only 700g which includes its ball head. Sells for USD 60.

Rarely do I truly need a tall tripod and if you take a lightweight scope (or camera and lens setup) then a lighterweight tripod will support the optics.

Look for a Manfrotto MKC3-HO1 or its modern equivalent (it is at least two years old now). The price asked is around £50. Easily packs into a rucksac and will support most cameras.

Second the Velbon Ultra Luxi, just have them substitute the Velbon PHD 57 head, single handle and much more practical for use with a scope.
Do note that at full stretch, this is not super steady. There is a price for the 4 section leg that allows it to fold compactly.
Have you considered a monopod/ hiking staff such as National Geographic stores sell?
