And my little angry face was aimed at people who capture wild birds (even more so if it is for the pet trade), not at you ;)

I want thank you for Id'ing these photos. FYI - I did take these photos at Butterfly World in Coconut Creek, Florida. ADubin

Indeed. Trapping of any finch (and I think any wild bird) in Aus is illegal, but it goes on anyway and the birds are smuggled out of the country.

My advice to anyone thinking of keeping these birds as pets is don't!

They may be captive bred, but can you really be sure? The illegally trapped birds are sold in pet shops too. Gouldian Finches are certainly endangered; their populations are heavily fragmented and they are probably extinct in Qld (except for a tiny reintroduced population near Cairns). They will in all likelihood become extinct in the wild if the trade is not stamped out.
