Rufous Hummingbird at Atlanta GA (1 Viewer)

Our 31st year at Hilton Pond Center started out rather slow as far as birds are concerned, but a trip to Atlanta was quite productive. Along the way we banded our first winter vagrant Rufous Hummingbird of 2012, met old friends from our Neotropical hummer expeditions, observed a Northern Flicker with a strangely crossed bill, and talked with Grainger McKoy of Sumter SC--arguably the world's best carver and sculptor of birds. Our latest "This Week at Hilton Pond" photo essay for 1-7 Jan 2012 covers all this and more at http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek120101.html

While there don't forget to scroll down for a list of birds banded and recaptured at Hilton Pond, plus a short discussion about the current lack of winter birds at the Center.

Happy (New Year) Nature Watching!
