Oregon or Slate-colored Junco? (1 Viewer)

I took this photo last week in eastern Michigan. The rust color on the back makes me think its the Oregon subspecies. According to Sibley, that would be a rare sighting - so, I don't trust myself. Help with ID.

I don't know about it being rare- I have a couple of these guys around my feeder every morning and every night. I assumed they were dark eyed Junco. Some have the sorta olive coloring on the back others it looks more brown

Hi,

It's a female Dark-eyed Junco of the Slate-colored variety. They can have a brownish back. Oregon shows a distinct hood.

Best,
Jim

Oregon has a very black head and a very brown body. It's very obvious. If there's any doubt as to whether it's an Oregon, then it's not one.
