Rode NTG-2 Shotgun mic. (1 Viewer)

I have just been given a Rode NTG-2 Shotgun mic as a gift. I have an old sony micro tape dictaphone which would probably not do the mic justice.
Has anyone used this mic in the field? is it even suitable for recording birds?, if so what would be suitable recorder to go with it?

thanks, Marc.

You're right, the dictaphone would suck. Big time :)

Zoom H4n is a nice match, would power the mic from the recorder using P48 power (switchable in the recorder menu).
