Technical knowledge to share (1 Viewer)

Bino repair man
I have been repairing optical instruments for years ( in fact, since leaving school oh so many years ago ) and for the last 20 years I have run my own workshop specialising in binoculars and telescopes. I still enjoy the technical side of the equipment and still find that many people are puzzled by the technical terms and details. I am happy to share my knowledge. I do have a web site but I am more than busy so I am not trying to get more business. If you think I can help, just ask. I am sure that if I don't know the answer, someone else will.

Hi Richard,

A warm welcome to BirdForum from all the Admin and Moderators.

I am sure your experience will be invaluable.

Hello Richard! There have been very many posts about the subjective side of views through bins and scopes, and many have tried to explain what they see in technical terms. It will be very interesting to hear it from a pro.

Welcome Richard

Richard it's very nice of you to offer your expertise, so I'll take advantage if I may. My binoculars Zeiss 10 by 40 B which are approx 18 years old suffer from those annoying small black specks which are especially a pain when you spend so much time skywatching for raptors, as I do. I realise age can cause this problem and have had then in for repair once already for the aforementioned problem. In your opinion can this be cured or is it likely due to their age and I will have to learn to live with it?

All the very best.
