A week in Provence as an aniversary present. If I could present my wife with a view of an Eagle owl, I'm confident that she would let me spend a couple of days birding. So any info would be appreciated, especialy on those Owls. We are staying near Gordes, this month, June. I may not get back to BF for a couple of days, so thanks in advance for any info.

Don't know about Provence but early June should be a good time for seeing Eagle Owls. The young are usually quite big, fearless & vocal at this time & the adults work overtime to feed them so that they are often obvious until 2+ hours after sunrise (though my experience is limited to central Spain!).

I was hoping somebody would tell me this was a good time, and I remember reading of Eagle owls not too far from Gordes, probably in one of the guides, I'll see if I can find it when I get home, so this all sounds hopefull. Thanks Steve

Any more info please................

Do a search on Surfbirds for a report by Chris Batty from the last winter before last for some good site details and information.
Thanks Periwinkle. I found some good trip reports. Can't wait.......

Hi there,
In the Pont de Gau bird parc in the Camargue Eagle Owls are kept in captivity with other species of Provence. One way of a certain tick! Also nearby at Albaron the Flamant Rose Restaurant has a huge collection of stuffed birds so yOu can tick tham whilst sipping a local bottle of mineral water or fruit juice!

Eagle Owls

The Chaine des Alpilles was always a good location for Eagle Owls.
What else would you like to tick whilst there? Maybe I can help.
best
David
