A local birder told me about a site for Tawny Owl near to where I live so I went down this evening and had great views of one sitting out in the open being mobbed my Blackbirds, 185 for the year now.

Today I went to the famous hummingbird feeders at Folha Secha. Highlights included Spot Backed Antshrike, Black Hawk Eagle, Buff Throated Purpletuft and numerous tanagers. I have now seen a total of 142 species in Brazil.

Does anyone on here keep a county yearlist aswell as a national one? I like doing it as it shows and helps you to appreciate the amount of birds in your home area without having to stray too far. It's easy for me so far this year as all 185 species I have seen have been in Lancashire, 182 of which have been seen in the Fylde (my local area).

bit too old for this (53),but what a way forward,as some older twitchers get older,we think enough is enough, lets put something back,Ive lived in a few areas in Britain, always kept a note book and always sent records in,ie London Cleveland,Scilly etc. and now Carmarthenshire.Im afraid I dont advocate the present day of digital photography.Note book and bins and scope are better. On Monday I was fortunate to watch a Lesser Grey Shrike for 3 hours, relising the primaries were brown, tertials slightly worn withh faded tips etc.people turned up digiscoped for 20 min, what would you sooner do
best wishes Bernie

181 in Norfolk for me, only Roller, White Tailed Eagle, Razorbill, Guillemot and Manx Shearwater have been out of Norfolk.

Totally agree with you there Bernie!

196 - Great Skua

Got my first Bonxies of the year today, with two north off Collieston near the Ythan this evening. I had another try for the Roseate Terns at the Ythan but unfortunately there was no sign of them. I will probably try one more time on Monday, but if all fails after that then I doubt I will go for them again. On Thursday, I will be heading off on my trip to Islay and Mull, which will go on until Monday 18th. I'm pretty excited!

It's interesting you bring up county year lists Jonny. I don't keep one myself, but I decided to tot mine up and it's 29 off my total year list at 167, which I'm quite happy with. I'm not sure how that compares with last year, maybe next year I should do a county year list alongside a national and keep a record of county year lists :t: .

Got a gorgeous male Ruddy Duck at a local undisclosed site (for obvious reasons) this evening, 187 now for the year.
