Hey all,

Taken 9th October. Had this down as Plain but now having doubts......just wanna make sure Star-spotted is totally off the table as checking online only seems to muddy the picture!

Looks perfect for Star-spotted to my eyes, Adam. Pattern of coverts and scaps along with general colour and patterning is spot on.
 
Cheers Tib....got to that day's photos last night and it just didn't look right. Our guide told us only Sombre and Plain were in the park so stupidly thought he knew what he was on about.....hindsight is wonderful ;)
 
I photographed SSN in Awash at night years ago (see Nigel Cleare's book) - also had that down as Plain Nightjar. Your picture is a lot better - are there any other day time images??
