i have to agree, looks like a textbook thunbergii. if there where some dark smudges on breast i would be even more happy to call it the nordic ssp. beacause certain feldegg hybrids indeed "mimic" thunbergii. usually there is some greenish on nape though in such ind. also, this is the time for thunbergii to pass romania (and central europe), later than feldegg which is there by the last decade of march.
very probably a thunbergii, chris, with a small concern towards the hybrid direction. i think thunbergii calls different. it is worth noting vocalisations.
I agree that the birds here are best called thunbergi.
As mentioned earlier some blackis headed thunbergi can be very similar to feldegg.
Usually they differ from feldegg by greyish lower nape, lack of sharp border and lacking jet-black and gloss on the head. Importantly, the nape feature is best seen from behind, almost invisible from a side view! Fyrther more, tha black on feldegg often continues down on upper mantle.
