Not sure where to post this, so I'll try here. I have two pet birds, so I can not care for this bird that "fell" out of the nest, since it probably is ill.
My neighbor called me just now and said there was a baby bird that "fell" out of the nest and was under her car. So I went over and saw the bird... feathers were in but still about 1/2 covered by the sheath. Appeared to be in a healthy condition, so I had her pick it up in a terry cloth towel and it closed its eyes as we stood there with it and relaxed. We put it on top of a hedge below the tree I saw a nest in (out of easy reach of cats) in a bowl with the towels around it partially to keep it warm in case its' mother came back.
Was this the right thing to do? I know most birds don't actually fall (which is why I used quotes), they are usually pushed due to illness. It seemed hungry, as I'm sure it was. She had fed it some water before I got there out of a syringe, and since I didn't touch it in case it was ill, I couldn't tell if the crop was full or not. Should I do something else? Or just let nature run it's course? (I am not taking it to a vet... sorry I don't have that much spare cash.)
