Yesterday I went out with Willie, one of Panama best birdwatchers. We visited his land in the shoreline of Gatun Lake, only 15 minutes from Colon City in the Caribbean area of the Panama Canal.
I remenber 4 years ago there was hardly a good bird in the area, but yesterday I got amazed to see how fast a tropical rainforest could regenerate it self.
We saw in 2 hours, walking arround without serious birding motivation, 3 differents Manakin species: Golden-colared, Blue-crowned and Red-capped Manakins. We also saw a Mottled Owl, Red-troathed Ant-tanagers Checker-troathed Antwrens, Greater Anni, Pale-vented Pigeon and a Black Hawck-eagle.
I don´t know how much the birds help in the regeneration of the forest but they certainly are making they way back to this secondary grouth rainforest.
