Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras (1 Viewer)

I recently purchased a Canon EOS 40D and am looking for a telephoto lens but am not ready to lay out some big bucks, I simply can't afford it after purchasing the camera! Would this be a decent lens to start out with or should I consider something else? I was looking at this with the IS , but it's out of my price range right now.

Thanks,

Julie

If you wish to stay with Canon, then the 70-300mm IS is the lens you would have to get. The 75-300mm is not made with IS anymore so if you really wanted that then it would have to be secondhand, however if you stretch to it then the other lens is better. There are of course the third party makes, Sigma/Tamron you may want to look into.

Julie, the 70-300mm IS lens can also take a 1.4 teleconverter, I use a Kenko Teleplus Pro300 1.4. Then when you have saved up enough dollars get an "L" grade lens.
