House Martin Nest Boxes (1 Viewer)

I'm considering putting up House Martin boxes for next year. How likely is it that I will get their attention bearing in mind that the nearest single nest (natural) that I can find is about 1 mile away. I can't say I have many flyovers...

I'm no expert, but I had a pair of House Martins breeding under the eaves of my house when I moved in 21 years ago, so that winter I put up three HM boxes on beams nearby. The pair returned to the eaves the following year, but I've never seen them again. No interest in the boxes (except for roosting Blue Tits in the winter) until this year, I have a pair of House Sparrows nesting in one!

As an aside, the Sparrows used the place under the eaves for a few years, but this is now used by a pair of Swifts - one of two pairs nesting in my house!

So worth a try, but expect a long wait!
