Best shotgun microphone for the 7D? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Forgive me if this has been dealt with here before (can't find it):

What is the best choice of 'shotgun microphone' for video recording with the 7d - I am looking to minimise both peripheral background noise and camera noise.

I have looked at the Sennheiser MKE400 and the Rode VideoMic and there seems to be little to choose between them - do any forum members have personal experiences or preferences?

Thanks

You are absolutely correct Froggy - it didn't help! I had no idea there was such a vast range of choice - but most people I have come across use either Rode or Sennheiser.

I take it from the silence that most 7D users are using the onboard microphone, which seems very noisy to me.

Has anybody recommendations or warnings about using these 3rd party microphones (especially given the vast range in price).

Thanks in advance.

I see a lot of people recommend the Zoom H4n for DSLR audio recording .
Gets around the AGC gain pumping and hiss .

I have the Rode VideoMic and im very happy with it and its great value too ,i do use a cable to take it away from the camera ,its a 3 metre cable so i can get it well away from me.
Rob.
