#1 looks more like 1st winter Pallas's Gull, white underwing, bill colouration and shape and (weak) mask behind eye...

nope, 2cy pallas's wouldn't show a mirror but instead contrasting rows of black marks (dotlike) on underwing. definitely not a pallas's gull and i agree, most likely a 4cy (3rd cycle) heuglin's gull on significantly darker looking remiges against white underwing coverts.
 
Mirror, right! Should stay away from gulls... still would be nice to get another picture from #1. Is there one?
