July Moths (1 Viewer)

Hummingbird Hawkmoth in my Delamere, Cheshire garden this morning. Very pleased as I planted and nurtured some nice Buddelia when we moved here exactly for this species. This is the first year with masses of flowers. Also 10+ Red Admirals and a few Peacock and "Whites" daily.

Cheers Andy!....am now wondering if we are just two "anomalous blips" at both ends of the country or.....has there been a general decline this year overall?

Hi Ken.

Just seen this post. I can report that here in Cornwall, just over the Tamar at Plymouth, I had a superb June/July for Elephant Hawkmoths with up to 20 a night at times during that period. I recently asked a moth-er down at Porthgwarra and they had a similar experience down there this summer.

During the period in question, I frequently had 25 Hawkmoths of 4 different species though there was never more than one Eyed. Poplar max was about 7-8; Privet roughly the same. Two Small Elephants only.
