Our first record was of a single bird in a Garden along Penny Hill Lane in 1978 the bird was present between 29th January and the 3rd February. It was eleven years till our next bird again a single bird on the 11th January 1989 on Beconveiw Road. Our first flock was in 1991 when 5 birds where seen briefly on the RSPB Reserve by John Fortey. In 1996 a flock of 130+ birds where on All Saints Way between the 8th and 17th March. In 2004 there where 3 birds seen in Dartmouth Park but no specific date was recorded and 30 birds where seen near Park Farm on the 23rd December. In 2005 we had 50 birds at Salter’s Lane on the 21st January, 23 birds near Forge Farm on the 19th March and 150 birds nearby at Sandwell Hospital between the 29th January and 31st January. There is a record of 72 birds in 2009 but no further details. In 2011 we had 155+ birds at Hill Top between the 13th January and the 17th January and up the road from the Reserve we had 55 birds between the 22nd and 24th January. There are two records from 2012 but no details on location in the Valley they where 6 birds recorded on the 12th January and one bird on the 24th January our latest record being the 2 birds Pete had yesterday 23rd January 2017.

In 2013 I had a group on the Newton Road and I had 30ish a some point in early 2011 on the large tree outside the centre.

The 72 birds in 2009 where possibly seen on Penny Hill Lane, in 2011 the 55 birds not far from the Rspb peaked at 165 birds and several years ago there where 35 birds in Hamstead per Pete Hackett

Great Black Backed Gull (85) x2, Wigeon x41, Teal x8, Pochard x3, Shoveler x2, Gadwall x2, Little Grebe x6, Great Crested Grebe x8, Cormorant x10 and GoldenEye male per Pete Hackett

saw 34 wigeon (looked like 17 pairs) on larger of duck ponds in Sandwell Valley. Also one pair of goosander on smaller duck pond. Also pair of goldeneye on Swan pool. All between 11 am and 12 noon.
