Bat Id - Borneo (1 Viewer)

Taken inside a tree along the Kanabantang river in Sabah, Borneo, any ID would be most welcome.

Dave, just a wild guess. The bat looks like a Plecotus sp., taivanus? - really a pure guess. Never been to Borneo or batted SE Asia ;)

Hi Dave - they look like Lesser False Vampire bats - Megaderma spasma. Its a fabulous species and despite its name it predominantly feeds on large insects - moths, beetles, crickets etc. With some records of eating other vertebrates like small frogs and lizards. Nice find!

Cheers,
Daniel
