Hi there
Can anyone guide me how to get the best out of a long weekend in Norfolk for birding with a camera, where to go? and how best to travel around? and when is best to go? what is likely to be seen in Sept.
any help is appreciated.
Deb

Surely there are people from Norfolk who can help me out with some information. Am I better of at the coast of the Broads?

Time is money - so my own advice would be to hook up with a good guide. I've just returned from spending two days with Chris Mills - Norfolk Birding being guided around some of the best sites and it was a fab experience - added 8 lifers bringing my list up to 217. And Chris is also a professional photographer, so he'd certainly be able to help in that area.

Give him a call - you won't be disappointed.

Good luck

I would say that the coast will offer you the best opportunities, with reserves such as Cley and Titchwell offering good photographic opportunities.

In September there should be good numbers of waders and terns and depending on the weather conditions you may be lucky to coincide with a fall of migrants such as Wheatears, Whinchats, Redstarts etc too. Also Marsh Harriers, Bearded Tits and a good variety of Ducks will also be present, plus the first of the many Pink-footed Geese that overwinter here will return.

As for other times of the year, there is a season by season account of the birds to be seen in Norfolk on my website, so please feel free to have a look.

In terms of getting around, if you are using public transport there is a good bus service 'The Coasthopper' which has stops all the way along the north Norfolk coast and there is a train station at Sheringham which is reached via Norwich.

Hope this helps, but if there is anything else then just ask.

Regards

Simon
