Indeed. "In as much [should be one word, 'inasmuch': OED, Cambridge Dictionary, Merriam-Webster] as the gender ending of the original names below (ie in Dickinson (2003)) were [should be 'was' - 'gender ending' is the subject of the sentence and is singular] changed on the presumption that gender agreement was applied to adjectival names, there is no reason to invoke prevailing usage [cinclorhyncus] against such changed spellings."

I read that as the acceptance of the stated presumption - the spelling cinclorhynca should be treated as the original spelling, but I am happy to stand corrected!

The species name cinclorhynca is not the original spelling. The plate and the text in Century Gould is dated July 1831. Vigors in December 1831 meeting published in 1832. All use cinclorhyncha.
