Leeds Liverpool canal - shag? (1 Viewer)

Hi there, I'm new here and have just joined, the thing that has driven me here is I've just seen a shag (for the second time) on the Leeds Liverpool canal, I initially thought it was a cormorant as I didn't get a proper look the first time, but after searching my books and the Internet I now know it was a shag.
Is it normal for it to be on a canal? It didn't look distressed it was diving beautifully, unfortunately I didn't have my phone to take a pic.
Thanks in advance. Jo.

Much more likely to be a Cormorant I would have thought - I have seen them on the canal in Leeds (though more frequently on the adjacent River Aire). It's very unusual to see a Shag away from the coast, whereas Cormorants are common on inland waters wherever there are decent sized fish for them.
