Are there any birding spots worth visiting in the city? ie Parks? Also can anyone recommend a hotel that has large bird friendly gardens if such a thing exists.

Thanks.

Hi there, Phulchowki, which is the highest of the mountains(2760m) which surround the Kathmandu valley is an essential stop when visiting Nepal. Its 18km to the south-east of Kathmandu,a taxi takes about 20mins.It is often worth driving to the top and then walking down. The Royal Botanical Gardens at nearby Godaveri are also worth a visit, although avoid weekends as they can get crowded.

cheers,S

Kathmandu is surrounded by several excellent birding localities - I spent several days in the city 'commuting' up to the various localities (I rented a motorbike and got to all of them with ease, though taxi is equally easy). Do you have the 'Where to Watch in Nepa'l guide - if not, send me a PM and I will dig it out for you.
