Hi Folks,

I have just received the following email from David Camilleri

Dear Birders:

We have don it! Our efforts and letters have made a difference and they do
work, read on the following two articles.

We are on the verge of a near victory in Malta and Ghawdex against the
hunters. We shall prevail. Let's keep up our campaigns and put pressure
when is needed.

Thanks,

david camilleri

Anyone wanting a copy of the hunters' one please PM me it is rather long but very interesting.

Thank you again for all your help and please anyone with Campaigns please don't give up, WE can win.

I know there will still be instances of birds being killed, let's be honest, it still goes on here but thankfully mass murder will be stopped.

Cheers Ann,

Even though you have had to wait 14 hours for the first reply!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for that update Ann - good news :t:!

It wouldn't be so bad, perhaps, if these 'hunters' confined themselves to their own patch of turf - Malta must be a bird-free zone outside the migration periods; some hunters are still flouting laws when they go abroad :storm:- here's a snippet from my mailbox this morning:-
A Maltese citizen was arrested by airport custom officers and Regional
Inspectorate for Environment at Sofia airport on 11 September 2005.
They found in his suitcases illegal pelts of Red breasted goose, Long legged
buzzard, Lesser spotted eagle, Goshawk, Great Egret and Raven.
All these species are protected according Bulgarian legislation. It is
forbidden to own, carry, transport or export protected species and their
parts without special permission from Ministry of Environment. The Maltese
citizen will be fined according the Bulgarian legislation for infrigement of
the Biodiversity Act and Custom legislation.
Unfortunately this is probably just the tip of the iceberg ...

Andy.
