My latest book "Birding in Lisbon" has just been released.

It describes some of the best hotspots to watch birds within the limits of Portugal's capital city.

Sounds good. Out of interest, how wide do the city's limits extend? Does the book cover the excellent wetlands etc on the other side of the Tagus (Alcochete, etc)?

Hi Jos,

The city comprises about 100 sq. km. and it is limited to the south and east by the river Tagus, so it just touches the edge of the estuary at the northeastern tip of Lisbon (Parque das Nações) and this part is mentioned in the book.

This volume does not cover the nature reserve and the wetlands on the left bank, however I'm planning another volume which shall be entirely dedicated to the Tagus estuary. Hope to have it available next year.

That's great news......this fabulous area can be horribly confusing for the new visitor, especially when time is limited ;)

Yes it can, especially because some areas are now closed (fenced off), whereas for some others you have to pay. I'll start working on it soon ;)

My copy dropped through the letterbox this morning, looking forward to using it on my next visit to Lisbon.

Thank you David! I hope that you find it useful.
