Blackbird looks injured (1 Viewer)

I have spotted a female blackbird in the garden and she looks to have been attacked by something as her tail feathers are missing and when she moves i can see a lot of under feathers missing from her back. She came and drank some water and kept closing her eye and then when she ran off, the movement was that of a slight limp. I do not know if to keep an eye on her or try and take her top the vets? She is drinking and eating but looks perhaps slightly shocked.
Thanks for any advice

If she is alert it will be almost impossible to catch her and would cause the bird so much distress.

Best thing to do, in my humble opinion is to put plenty of food and water out and hope she recovers naturally. If not you will have done your best for the bird Paul and that's what counts :flowers: .

I agree from personal experience with tail featherless blackbirds in my garden. Try to discourage any cats from the area and the bird will hopefully make a full recovery. I have seen Blackies flying without all their tail feathers, but it can take a while for them to get used to it, as they are rather unsteady without them. The feathers will eventually grow back.
