Window Strikes – A Cure? (1 Viewer)

I have tried various patent stick-on devices without curtailing the appalling death rate among all our garden birds, especially the fledglings.

Following a pilot project last year, this year I have hung floaty string from the top of each pane at 18 inch intervals. So far this has been very successful – the only strikes being on two unprotected windows, which have now been attended to.

If you can cope with the comments from neighbours, try it. All you need is blue tack and baler twine or something similar.

When our windows were clear for a while(no nets or blinds) due to decorating ,we had problems and ended up having to cover the windows with windolene. On finishing and having new blinds put up,we have had no further problems, thank goodness.

Have security bars to stop any wayward thieves crashing through the windows, seems to do the trick for birds too, as I've never had a bird strike

I would think that anything that breaks up reflections should do the trick. The windows in my house are clear and occasionally have bird strikes, but our next door neighbor's have a lot of decorative things on them and birds about never hit theirs.

Mary E, Jos and Michael,

Thank you for taking the trouble to read and reply to the post.

It is still early days, but no fatalities since installing the protection.

Jos I would go into a decline if I had to live behind bars.
