Strange Greylag goose? (1 Viewer)

At one of my local patches (Brandon Marsh near Coventry) the other afternoon I saw what I thought was a Greylag Goose but it had a puffed out chest and a white stripe approx. 20 mm wide that started at the back of it,s beak, ran over the top of it,s head and down it,s neck for a short way.

Of course I had forgotten my bird guide and my camera. There were no other Greylag Geese about to compare it with.Does anyone know what it might have been?

It,s shape was probably more similar to a Pinkfooted goose and I believe White Fronted geese have white at the back of their beaks but not as much as I descibed above.Help!!!!

MAX.

I have heard cases in which they try to breed with canada goose. I don't know if there compatible. But they always seem to "Lag." Along with a group of canadas.

Just an idea.

Hi Jorn,

I have looked at the thread you mentioned and it was not that bird. The goose I saw was similar to a Lesser White Fronted goose but the white stripe went over it,s head and down it,s neck for a little way.
We will never know what it was .This will teach me to take the scope as well as the bins everytime!!!!!

MAX.
