I am visiting Hong Kong mid February 2016. I hope to join the Hong Kong Birdwatching Society's outing to Mai Po on 14 Feb.
I have 2 more days in which to do birdwatching in Hong Kong (15 &16 Feb) and I am looking for some company/guiding at any of the other popular birding spots Tai Po Kau, Long Valley etc
If interested or available please email me : [email protected]
If you know of someone I can contact, that info will be appreciated.

Regards
Eugene

This 5-star thread will give you some ideas as to where to go and what to look out for. It certainly did when I visited Hong Kong in December 2013.

On my first morning in Hong Kong I caught the railway (excellent network) to Kowloon Park and spent time there. It was a good introduction to some of the bird species. I happened to time my journey to Kowloon Park with morning rush hour, which was not the best move!

I'm sure you've done it, but just to check - have you got your Mai Po permit sorted? It's quite easy, but better now then too late!

Just a warning...I did a walk with the HKBWS a few years back. Very few people on the walk spoke English. How's your Cantonese?

That's not to say I wouldn't do it again. Just that it may not be as straightforward as you might hope.

Hi Eugene

There are three birding guides in Hong Kong that I know of:

Martin Williams<[email protected]>, ( drmartinwilliams.com )
David Diskin <[email protected]>, and ( http://www.hknaturewalks.com/ )
John Holmes<[email protected]> ( http://johnjemi.blogspot.hk/ )

I've known all of them for many years and all are very good birders
and all of them either blog or write books about nature and birding in
Hong Kong - the links in brackets after each email.

Personally I can't help with 15 and 16 Feb as I work a regular 5-day week.

. . . and thanks for the plug for my thread Alan!

Cheers
Mike
