Pitylinae (1 Viewer)

When Cabanis and Heine introduced the subfamily Pitylinae in 1850 they include species of several bird families, including Passerellidae, Thraupidae, and Cardinalidae. My question is of which of these families is Pitylinae a synonym?

That name was originally introduced by Sundevall in 1836.

Original spelling: Pitylides; original rank: family; Sundevall CJ. 1836. Ornithologiskt system. Kongl. Svensk. Vetenskapsacad. Handl., ser. 3, 23 (for 1835): 43-130.; p. 75: [here].
The type genus is Pitylus Cuvier 1817 [OD]; originally included nominal species: Loxia grossa [Linnaeus 1766], Loxia canadensis [Linnaeus 1766], Loxia erythromelas "Latham" [= Gmelin 1789], Loxia portoricensis Daudin [1800]; among which Gray 1840 [here] subsequently designated as type Loxia grossa Linnaeus 1766.
Loxia grossa Linnaeus is now Saltator grossus (Linnaeus), and currently in Thraupidae, with which Pitylidae is therefore synonymous.
