White face darter query (1 Viewer)

This photo taken in Sweden looks to me to be a leucorrhinia dubia , white faced darter. What confuses me is the colour of the Pterostigma. The top right appears brownish which coincides with the information in My Field Guide but the others are white?

Can someone enlighten me? Is it an immature whose pterostigma will darken with age?

That's the best illustration I've seen of the diagnostic half yellow costa of dubia which is very obvious here. Note that the basal half is dark.

All dragonflies start with white (clear) pterostigmas and then they colour as they age. I think the brownish one in your photo is just due to the background.

I don't think there's a better fieldguide than the one you have - it's just it would be an enormous book if they included all stages in an adult dragonfly's development.
