Redpoll ? (1 Viewer)

I was checking through some old slides recently, looking for a shot to use in a talk, when I came across a shot of what I always thought was a female Redpoll feeding young in the nest, it struck me that somehow it didn't look right. I dug out another old shot of a male Redpoll feeding the female on the nest, I could see straight away that the female was different. Anyway I've included both shots, I'd appreciate your views.

Wonderful pictures! Are you sure the first one isn't a siskin of some kind? I thought all redpolls had red spots on their heads... that one is yellow.
I would love to be able to get nest shots like that! Very nice.

I'd agree with Fifey, the first bird is very worn, so the pale feather tips are mostly lost. With the young near fledging, it would be starting on the summer moult fairly soon.
