ID help needed!

hi, i am new here but was wondering if i could get some help -- can you identify this bird for me? I know it as a roller but cannot find one online that looks like it!

Hi Isagarch,

To me it looks like a juvenile Coracias cyanogaster (Blue-bellied Roller).

Agreed, nothing else look alike...

Is that an African or an Asian species? (before I file it in the index?)

It's an African species (found N of the Equator mostly in the W from Senegal across to occasional records in S Sudan and N Zaire).

Hi Isagarch-- welcome to BF. Nice bird, and whyever is it in you hand in California? Is it a pet?
