Been trying to get something of this guy for days. We see them flitting around the garden, but if I go out and set up my rig, you think they stay around? Ha!:-C
So I was happy this afternoon to at least get these. The perch and background isn't very aesthetic, but...

Ah, yes.....Black Redstart.o:D

Been a while since I last posted here due to lack of interest and other hobbies taking time.
But now there's some spark again, finally. Two photos taken the last couple of days to get in the right tracks again.

The second one is so damn sharp, the only thing that could be better is the scenery as you say. The focus is just spot on.

Barnacle Geese coming in for landing.
I really like what you've been doing with the OMD EM5 lately, lovely shot. I'm planning on going Olympus, will see what they have to offer in the fall. The EVF and all else it has to offer really seems nice to have while shooting with slow scopes as we are.

Nice day for soaring.

Sitting on our balcony at 5:30 this afternoon, still 34°C! Just had enough time to run get my SW and pop off a couple of shots of our local Buteo before he sailed over the house and disappeared.

SW 80/600 + 1.6 TN and Nik D7000. Didn't have time to boost the ISO up so the shtter speed is a tad low at 1/640.

I was out on my racing bike in the morning, before it got too hot, and at one point a BB circled very low, just in front of me. I slowed down and had a chance to have a really good look up close. Couldn't have been more than 25-30 meters up. But then....maybe he was checking ME out..waiting for me to drop over dead! ;)B :)o:D

Thanks Oskar
And welcome back.

Even if Olympus will not have new compelling offering at attractive price point later this year, you could always opt for an EM5, price seems to have dropped recently. The most valuable features in context of our application area are in my opinion:
The EVF as such, so much easier to focus
EVF magnification for precise focusing
The IS as such, I would say 1/100s is no longer an issue
Effect of IS rendered in the viewfinder
Sensor performance at higher ISO is quite good
Weather resistant
Touch panel reducing the vibrations when firing a long exposure shot
Low weight, exercises less strain on the focuser and gives better balance overall

The drawbacks?
Need to have camera turned on to use the setup as a spotting scope
Control buttons on the rear are a bit small, this can be an issue if you have large fingers
Slow AF performance when used with 4/3 lenses

Thank you, cango, Jules and Tord! I consider you my masters to learn from. I have mostly been an astrophotographer, but am getting great joy from this as well.

Marsh Harrier

I spotted this male Marsh Harrier on my way home from work today. He was kind enough to keep on hunting for a few minutes within shooting range (around the 75m mark). He was eventually rewarded with a mole, unfortunately the pictures with the catch did not come out sharp. Too bad.

Some air distortion is visible but these ones deserved to be shared I think.

I have intentionally preserved some picture elements in the background to give an idea of the scenery. The road in the background is the junction from Malmö harbour leading to the E6, the major artery connecting Scandinavia to the european continent. Concrete jungle starts less than 500 m from my position, in between us is this semi-wild marsh. And on a side note I spotted an Osprey at the same place, shortly after this sequence, truly fantastic.

SW80
~50% crops of EM5 frames @500 ISO, 1/1250s (Could have pushed ISO higher)

Nice, keep them coming.
Regarding the camera you are using - I am not familiar with Canon, what model is it expressed in numeric terms? Is that the 450D?

From a recent trip above the 50th parallel

My wife and I went on vacation to Quebec Lower North-Shore. We rented a small appartment on the beach in a place called Longue-Pointe de Mingan, about 500 km north-east from Quebec City where I live.

From the beach, we were able to watch Northern Gannets feeding, Minke Whales as close as about 50 m. from the shore, and Common Porpoises.

We took an excursion to the Mingan Archipel and visited 2 islands. 800 Atlantic Puffin couples are nesting on Parrots Island with Razorbills and Black Guillemots.

Attached are a few of the photos taken with the OM-D and the SW80ED (no barlow).

If you are interested, you can see other bird and nature photos taken with regular lenses here:

This has been one of the nicest photo outings I've had. I'm planning another one for early October to Ile aux Basques.

Regards
Jules
