Birding Weekend in Missouri (1 Viewer)

I attended our annual Fall Meeting, September 24 - 26, 2004, in Lake of the Ozarks State Park (Missouri) this last weekend. Of special interest was the “hawk watch” some of us did on Sunday morning. The birds recorded during the one and a half hours that we “watched” were:

179 Turkey Vultures, 2 Merlin, 80 Broad-winged Hawks, 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 3 Red-tailed Hawks, 4 Cooper's Hawks, 2 Osprey, and an immature Bald Eagle.

The species total for the weekend was 101, listed in order of ASM's Annotated Checklist
of Missouri Birds:
Canada Goose, Wood Duck, Mallard, Blue-winged Teal, Wild Turkey,
Double-crested Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Bald
Eagle, Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk,

I did not get any new “year birds” for Missouri. But it was a very enjoyable week-end and I believe a good time was had by all who attended the event.
