April Moths - 2015 (1 Viewer)

The nights have been cold here in N Norfolk for the past week until last night when the temp dropped to 11C. I had three actinic trapa out in woodlands ( would have been 4 but deer knocked one over ) and only caught 42 moths.

Hebrew character
Chestnut
Satterlite
Small Quaker
Powdered Quaker
Early Grey
Brindled Pug
Brindled Beauty
Water Carpet
Purple Thorn
Swallow prominent
Mainly still early spring species, but with a sign of things to come except the last three.

Set 4 traps again tonight in different locations and fingers crossed the milder weather will last intill morning as it looks like we are in for another string of cold nights.

Well last nights catch was very poor despite a mild evening , rain came in at midnight and it got quite cool. 5 traps set , only two caught , 4 in one and 18 in another , the other 3 were empty.

Brindled pug 16
Clouded drab 1
Hebrew character 1
Common Quaker 3
Engraled 1

April totals:

13 nights produced 72 moths of 16 species.

New for the garden were Swallow Prominent, Epermenia chaerophyllella, Esperia sulphurella, Streamer and Agonopterix alstromeriana.

Garden total now 295 in 5 years. Urban/suburban location in Southend.
