Tiss a shame no one replied yesterday I backed off as I would love but have never see one (to date I have photographed 87 species in France and this iant one of them) I have checked my books you are correct, I think a female Where did you see this lovely creature, I imagine where the Cowslips grow I ask because I lived in the Chipping Sodbury area of Glos for 45 years but never saw one

Hi Steve

Maybe I should have been a more expansive in the first post! It was on Rodborough Common, NT land where there is a fairly well known colony. Many other gorgeous things there on the same day and well worth a visit if you have reason to be back this way.
 
Thanks for the location, I left the UK 20 years ago the places I most miss are the Cotswold escarpment and Charmouth
One day I will return but best wishes to you and your new discoveries
