Nearest Stockton Ringers (1 Viewer)

You may be a bit late in the year to catch them now as with the temperatures dipping ringers usually pack up for the winter as birds trapped in nets chill in minutes if not seconds.

Places that spring to mind are -

- Low Barns Reserve nr Bishop Auckland has several ringers most Saturday mornings at the feeding station.
- Long Drag, Seals Sands often sees ringers out on Sunday mornings.

- Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park has periodic visits from ringers using the feeding station 'behind' the visitor centre. They're from the Summerhill Reserve at Hartlepool - where they also ring at their feeding station.

Nearest full time ringing 'school' is Foxglove Covet at Catterick Garrison nr. Richmond run by Tony Crease of Eagle Owl fame - but you most likely need a contact to get in. I've visited a couple of times but it's a long trek from here as they begin at dawn.

You may be able to make a contact through the Teesmouth Bird Club (who have a web site) for a local ringer but the usual route is to contact the BTO through their web site and they'll put you in touch with a local ringer if it's convenient to them.

Ringers do turn up at other locations where a rarity has been reported such as the Cetti's Warbler on Dorman's Pool at Seal Sands which was ringed a couple of weeks ago.
