Gull-sized Irish bird, Black back, blue breast stripe ID please (1 Viewer)

My friend was in Ireland recently and saw a gull-sized bird with a black back, and long black tail, white breast and underparts and a light blue band across the breast.
Any ideas what he saw?

Sounds like a Magpie (Pica pica) to me, which actually has a black breast and no blue band but depending on the light could appear bluish.
