Spider Question...........how did it make this web?

No photo.........sadly window cleaner came before I could photograph it :(
Outside our patio door we have a pergola and the 2 wooden upright end posts are approx. 900mm apart.
The spider managed to get a thread from left post to right post then another approx 300mm below that one....... then form a beautiful web approx 300 diameter between those posts.
So........how could it get the initial threads across the span??
The only way I can think is to allow the wind to carry it.......but that is some feat of engineering.

Great question, maybe he spun a thread and waited for the wind to carry him/her accross the gap on the line?

Thae same can be asked of othere spiders like the Nephala group that have huge webs, how do they get that intial line across?

Interested to hear other theories on this.
