I have been hand rearing 4 baby House Martins since Wednesday after sadly their nest was destroyed. It has been tiring and hard work, but I am pleased to say that they are doing fantastically! They are almost ready to fledge now! Just thought I'd share some pics! :)

Thank you, I have been rearing them mostly with 3-4 crickets each every hour from 5am to 11pm, but now and then I add a little bit. Of soaked cat food, and a waxworm each a few times a day. I don't like to give them a lot of cat food really, just a little. Also, after killing the crickets to feed, I do take their big spiky legs off and dust them with poly-aid powder, which I think is wonderful stuff, and has really helped to perk up my ill Swift I have at the moment. The babies are getting more and more restless now and they're looking around like they wanna go, so I may attempt release early this evening. I get a lump in my throat when I think about releasing them, coz I worry about them, and I have got attached to them, but the wild is where they belong. I just want them to all go off together.

All 4 of my babies were released successfully yesterday, I was so happy! They all went off and joined other House Martins straight away!

Here's a video of their release! :)
