Hello all,

I am new to this forum and looking for suggestion for bird photography near and around Munich, Germany. I do not have personal vehicle so will travel using public transport. Can somebody help me in this regard by helping me with the place(s) name known for bird photography or bird watching.

I am mostly interested in capturing the raptors and also as the autumn season is coming, I hope there will be some time where the migratory birds shoud be passing through. Hence please help me.

Hi Sanjib,

I haven't been there personally, but the Ismaninger Speichersee seems to be popular with Munich birders:

Since it's some way from the nearest train station, renting a bike might make travel easier. Some links:

Here's a detailed overview (in German) over the Ismaninger Speichersee reserve:
http://birdinggermany.de/Ismaninger.htm
The points marked as "2" and "3" are the most recommended apparently. Like Henning, they recommend a bicycle. A scope is also recommended, as is usual with waterbirds.

This might also help in determining which areas are easiest to access via public transport:

The black lines are (regular) regional trains connecting to the S-Bahn.

If you have more time in Munich, it might also be worth investigating the nearest places in the Alps, as well as the Starnberger See (in winter) and the Ammersee.
Here's a map of some of the best sites in Bavaria (the ones marked in orange are covered in the book "Vögel beobachten in Süddeutschland"): http://birdinggermany.de/bayern.htm

Birding areas near Munich like lake Ismaninger Speichersee reachable from so called S-bahn station Unterföhring.

Good raptor watching place is Pang near Rosenheim, about 60 km south east of Munich.

Bird areas depends from time when visit.
I live in Munich, maybe we can watch together.
I am aroad until end of October.
