Hello,Im new to the forum.I was wondering if i could gets some info on a pentax 10x42 dcf binocular.I have a chance to get these from a guy i talk to on the net but was wanting to know if these older binocs were water proof, phase coated. The guy doesn't know if it is or not no paper work.I have a pair of pentax 8x32 wp which i dearly love.Would they be the same quality as the 8x32 wp.I appreciate any info Thanks....Steve.

You need more information about the binocular. There are a number of Pentax binoculars with the DCF designation as you can see from the attached link:

http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/pentax.pl?page=pentaxoptics

There are also initials that come after the DCF that are important. Your friends could be an HRc or a WP II. Click on the binoculars to see the differences. Scroll down to see the WP II.

And there is also a DCF CS too! http://www.eagleoptics.com/binoculars/pentax/pentax-dcf-cs-10x42-binocular.

I looked at the picture he sent me and it just says pentax 10x42 DCF.My pentax 8x32 says DCF WP.The binoculars look used and older.I'll try to put up a pic if i can....Steve.

Does it look like the pics of the 10x42 in this ebay auction with the rubber eyecups instead of twist ups? I doubt I would believe his claim that they are better than the newer ones as Pentax also makes a new one with the DCF only moniker called "Gamekeeper" which are not very good. I am wondering if the DCF is waterproof??
I would imagine these date back to the late 90's.

here is a different style of DCF only
