Sandhill Cranes Poking Holes in Screen (1 Viewer)

Looking for a little help for a friend in Florida. When these Michiganders first moved to FL they were deligted to be visited by Sandhill Cranes in their yard almost daily. There is a pond on the edge of the property that was probably part of the attraction for the cranes, but they have continued to come even though the pond has been dry for several months. In the last week the cranes have been poking holes in the lanai screening with their beaks. There is a pool inside the lanai, but otherwise no idea why. Do any of you have any ideas of ways to keep the cranes away from the lanai screening? Maybe a plant that will keep them away from that part of the house? Any ideas would be helpful.

It's the type used for the screened enclosure for the pool to keep bugs, leaves and critters out. I assume it is the fiberglass type.

Would it be possible to hang something from the screening to ward off unwanted visitors - old CDs maybe?
